My Little Soldier
While I was making "cool ties" for our soldiers, my little man decided not only does he want to be a soldier, but Snoopy (on his head) joined the ranks with him!
He is adorable. I can see a future Marine there!!! Semper Fi Thanks for helping out with the cool ties project. It means a lot to the 336th and of course the boyfriend. Hugs....
At this time, packages have been returned to me that I've recently sent to Afghanistan. Please do NOT use the previous mailing address to send aprons and other items to the Women's Center.
I will certainly update this info as soon as I find another contact, or Cpt. Painter!
Pattern Information
Since this project is brand new, there are no guidelines or specific pattern you must use to make the aprons. I am, however, in the process of drafting my pattern so that it can be downloaded on my new site www.susanround.com There are several free patterns available online. I've been making the baker, or butcher style with the neckstrap.
Sewing My Way
Most of the projects I do are not heirloom, high detail stitching. The items I make to send to Afghanistan are more about durability. This isn't to say that I'm rushing through just to get 'er done.
I'm doing the best stitching I can; however, if a topstitching line starts going off I don't rip it out. When I attach the waist ties and neckstraps I'm not necessarily worried about how the stitching appears as much as I am the tie stays on the apron.
I hand-smocked delicate clothes for years, and made quilts that every point and seam must meet exactly. Now, I'm all about having fun sewing, no stress over matching seams, handwork, doing math, or even marking the fabric. All I focus on is the colors and designs, the sewing and making the item for someone else who desperately needs it.
